Photo Contest

Photo: Rainy night in Hallstatt

Fairy Tale Photo
National Geographic held an exceptional experiences photo contest, there were many pictures but only one photo could win. Even though there were many great photographs I loved the photo that won ( the photo above). This photo reminds me of a childhood fairytale, a place you could only dream about. All the other photos just looked simple and plain. With this photo it looked like everything is very happy and just well perfect! All the colors and bright lights brought the photo to life. I believe out off all the other photo's this photo definitely deserved to win.  I don't think you could get a better photograph.

Globablization- What Does It Actually Mean?

Globalization
We always hear the word Globalization, but what does it really mean? Globalization is not any easy term to understand, especially for us kids. After some research I found a great definition on this site. Globalization, as a concept, refers both to the "shrinking" of the world and the increased consciousness of the world as a whole. It is a term used to describe the changes in societies and the world economy that are the result of dramatically increased cross-border trade, investment, and cultural exchange.
What that definition means is that globalization is that everything is connected, everything is very multi-cultural, unlike it was before. Globalization is another way to explain changes in our societies and trade, investment, and cultural change. The change that is happening is that we are more dependent on other countries and other people. We rely on other countries for supplies to be able to live, for example we import food from all over the world to be able to survive.

There Are Different Faces Everywhere...But Which One Is The Face Of Tomorrow?

I was reading about the artist, Mike on the website
Face's Of Tomorrow
and I believe all he does is collect over a hundred photos of males and females and with a special computer, he meshes all the photo's together. I couldn't even imagine all the work and time this project would take.
Facial identities always change over generations. When someone in your family has a certain feature ( say freckles) is most likely it will be past down threw out your entire family .Besides genetics there are the cultural differences among children who are the product of interracial parents. For example when to people have children together, and they are from to different places they're children will take in some of there genetics. Which will be very different considering not every country have the same genetics.

While I was looking on the website The Face of Tomorrow I found a few interesting things. One thing I found was that most of the photos of all of the people that were combined in one photo, didn't look anything like the photo that is supposed to be the face of tomorrow. I know they combined so many photos into one, and it would be hard to pick out one person's features, but I really didn't see a resemblance at all. I really think this is a really cool project to try to do, but i don't overly think it is accurate. I don't see any features from the photo's of the hundred people, in the two photo's of the "faces of tomorrow". I was really surprised that there is even an average face, for a country. I just thought that everyone is different and that no one is the same. Also I can't even believe that the artist could combine all of these photos, to make one. I don't even know what I expected, I guess I just thought some person went to a country and saw different people and sketched a photo. It doesn't make much sense, but this is what I was expecting.

The differences in our faces play a big part in our identity. It makes us different from everyone, it gives us personality. If everyone look identical it would be like living in a world with zombies, you wouldn’t even know who was who. Not fun. Even little features help give us our own identity, for example freckles, dimples, big eyes, all these things help us stand out giving us our identity. With these features we look different from each other, letting us be our own person.

averageI think this represents the face of tomorrow. I think this because while I was playing around on  Face Research I picked faces I would normally see while I'm out and about. By doing this I was combining the many average faces I see into one photo. This is the face of tomorrow because it has many different cultural features in one face, from the cause of globalization. For example the little eyes, could be from a Chinese person, and the nappie hair may be from an African-American person, all these features are from different cultures. This is the face I would pick for the face of tomorrow, it has many different cultural features into one photo.

Seven Million People And Im Just One

“But we don't take up as much space as you'd think. Standing shoulder to shoulder all 7 billion of us would fill the city of Los Angeles. So it's not space we need – it's balance.”

These words are a wake up call to humanity. They are saying that we will forever have space, but we won't always have recourse's. In the world there is a delicate place, we have to balance or recourse's so we don't run out. We have to try our best to balance water, our wastes, our food, ect. If we don't we will run out. Gone. Forever. There are already people in the world living without enough food and water, while us in Canada are taking it all  for granted.

910000 people in our world don't have clean water.
2660000 people in our world lack adequate sanitation.
Out of all the seven million people on earth, nine hundred and ten thousand people don't have clean water. Can you imagine not having clean water to drink? Having to drink anything that you can?  It would be terrible. If  you think that stat is bad wait until you hear this... twenty-six million people in the world lack adequate sanitation! This means they don't have toilets, or sinks. EW! How would you get clean? Or where would you go to the bathroom? I shudder just thinking about it. Doesn't sound like fun to me. I feel bad just thinking people have to live like this, while I have everything I need to live a fantastic life right at home.

What Does My Name Actually Mean?

Behind My Name: Chantel
Before I started this assignment, I always thought my name sounds pretty, because of the sound it makes when it rolls of your tongue. Its sounds soft, and feminine. I didn’t really know what my name meant, I just knew that it was french. When I was younger, I always thought my name and show-and-tell were the same thing. I used to get so excited because I thought my name was the same as my favorite activity. Lots of people would correct me, but I just ignored them. I soon realized the truth. I think my parents chose this name for me because my mum loved the name Chantel. Im glad my mum spelt it with an "e" instead of an "a", Chantal is very common unlike Chantel.

After searching on, PaulSadowski.com I learned my name means a singer and to sing. Im not much of a singer, but I do enjoy music. Some more interesting things I learned ( on behind my name) is that my name is from a french surname which delivered from a place meaning "stony". It was originally given in honor of Saint Jeanne-Francoise de Chantel, the founder of Visitation Order in the 17th century. It has become associated with the french chant "song".

I think my name suits me very well. I think this because "Chantel" sounds like a bubbly name and just for someone who its always happy, I am both. If I had to re-name myself, I would choose the name Kailey. The name Kailey sounds so girly, and lovely. I would spell it differently then how its usually spelt, this way it would be unique.
Growing up my family, and all my famililies friends would call me "Chantilly Lace" from the song "Chantilly Lace". I always thought they were just makeing fun of my name, but once I listened to the song I realized it was a compliment. Whenever I hear this song it always brings a smile to my face.

Where Is The Love?

I think the song Where Is the Love, by The Black Eyed Pea's motivates teenagers to try to change the world. The inspiring lyrics make people think about everything going around them. When the song repeats " where is the love?", it makes me think of a current problem, I also think why isn't the love here, if everyone is capable of giving love why aren't we. A lyric, which I find very powerful is " So ask yourself is lovin' really gone, So I could ask myself what really what is goin' wrong?", the reason  I find this powerful is because it makes people ask that question " What is really going on?" it makes them think about the problem and a way to fix it. This song has a great message, not just for teenagers but for everyone.

Movie Review: Grown Up's

Grown Ups PosterGrown Ups was a well produced and well written comedy. Unlike your average comedy, this movie will have you laughing from start to finish. This movie will having you wanting to watch it over and over again. The collaboration of Adam Sander, Kevin James, Chris Rock and David Spade was genius! Having all of these comedians made the movie even better! I would highly recommend this to all of my friends. (:
